Early December in 2017, after months of planning Aware Group, was officially awarded a $600k Callaghan grant for the research and development of educational machine learning across anonymised structured data sets. The purpose of the research is to develop new principles of standadised reporting, machine learning techniques and complete flow of data through new technologies to supplement existing technologies in the creation of a product – Tertiary Analytics as a Service.
The product will essentially allow a direct data from a tertiaries major IT systems, Data Warehouses, Services and external data sources to transform this into a singular data warehouse managed for the tertiary. This data warehouse will query a larger anonymised data set made up of all other tertiary data for the purpose of increasing the accuracy of the provided machine learning for subjects from student fail rate prediction to EFTS prediction as well as general reporting – market share, performance, SDR and general benchmarks. All data within the anonymised data set will both include general anonymisation as well as logical restrictions (Particular aspects that can force uniquely identifiable sources).
The outcome of this years long research will be to produce a large reduction of tertiary reporting operation costs, support the transition of staff members performing legacy tasks, provide TEC and other government bodies the ability to query a central data store, generate better student outcomes and predictions and provide a next generation operating model for both allied and academic staff members.
Post research will allow prediction of students from high school into tertiary as well as there predicted pathway success.
